- In the ХVII century people used white lead powder, chalk, and creams to lighten their skin tone. The chalk was diluted with an egg white and some vinegar.
- Coco Chanel introduced the fashion for tan. She got seriously burnt on a cruise to Cannes in 1923.
- Perfumer Jean Patou invented the first oil for tanning in 1927.
I agree with the first sentence. White skin looks so noble! Is that Coco Chanel in the picture?
