10. Calendar - розклад (НЕ календар)
11. Data - дані, інформація (НЕ дата)
12. Demon - енергійна людина (Не демон)
13. Decade - десятиріччя (НЕ декада)
Very useful)) Especially #11. But I am not sure about # 3,5 and 12. Did you check them in the dictionary?
ReplyDeleteYes, I check this. But my dictionary translates Air-port as аеропорт, Demon as демон and Agency as агенство. Where is the truth?
ReplyDeleteHere is a brief analysis of Translator's False Friends)) I agree with numbers 1,2,4,7,9,10,11,13 (In our language decade is ten days, not years). I am not so sure about 3,5,6,12. Agency has the meaning of help but it is very rare. The same is with airport and demon, I think. Честолюбство and амбіції have very similar meanings in our language. So I think both translations can be used. With calendar both translations are possible. You have to be careful which one a person means. (One of my students says 'I have to check my calendar' when we discuss the time of our next class ' So which meaning does he mean?) With number 8 I am not sure because I am not very good at maths))) So was this comment a little helpful?
